Ball of Wax 42 Songs: 3844 – The Meaning of Life

3844 is, in fact, Mr. Christopher Hydinger, whose songs as the Music of Grayface have appeared on Ball of Waxes going back years. As I’ve written elsewhere, the Music of Grayface’s “Averybriefstory” was the highlight of an extremely strong Volume 5 for me, which was the first volume I both contributed to and heard in its entirety. Hydinger’s musical persona is pretty obscure and his contributions are far too few, which made the appearance of his 3844 project (why 3844? maybe it’s a reference to a certain Lego set? or the Greek number in Strong’s Concordance which refers to the word para – meaning from, besides or near? maybe, like many people view life, a random, insignificant occurrence?) a welcome surprise this round. Which brings us to Hydinger’s contribution to Volume 42 – his “meaning of life” is 42 seconds of silence.

One Response to Ball of Wax 42 Songs: 3844 – The Meaning of Life

  1. 3844 (pronounced ‘thirty-eight, forty-four’) is my outlet for the compositional concepts that I’ve had floating in my head for many years. Some complex, some simple… but until I explored composition software applications, I didn’t have an artistically or technically viable means to manifest any of them.

The first result of this exploration is the concept album ‘The Planets’. This album features eight compositions, each based on a factually nebulous comprehension of each of the eight planets in our solar system, and took me over 3 years to complete during 2010-2013.

I am currently composing for the concept album ‘Music for Active Meditation’ with aims of non-invasively providing carefully crafted audio scores to further enhance the quality of personal active meditation experiences.

I am also currently composing for the concept album ‘ROY G BIV’. These compositions are being created using an approach similar to ‘The Planets’ in that they are based on my subjective experiences with the subject matter… in this case the seven hues humans are able to discern in the visible light spectrum.

If you are interested in hiring me to compose an original piece for your project, live performance, video/film/commercial, website, special gathering/party/celebration or you have an idea for a composition that you’d like to see come to fruition for fun or otherwise, please contact me… I’d be honored to work with you.
