Taledragger blew me away when I heard it. GravelRoad is covering new ground in a genre you might think has been around the block too many times, but these guys really surprised me. Psychedelta is one of the best sounding albums in my collection. Call it acid blues, call it whatever, it's just one of those records that you can go back to again and again.

As Sam's father, I couldn't agree more. You should have heard him sing and play the bongos at the age of three! Great article and good luck tomorrow night, Son.

Albuquerque is a weird town for sure. I spent a very non-musical and pretty unstimulating weekend or so there a long time ago. It is (or was?), however, home to BoW alum Dominick Campbell of Luminous Craft/Church Animals, so there must be something great about it.

Yeah, I come back to Lulu and try to listen to it once in a while. It's a challenge. There's substance and ambition in that work. When I was a kid in Wisconsin and fell in love with Lou Reed's recordings, his music was always a litmus test. As much as music journalists today say they love him, I swear that very few normal music listeners-- at least among people I encountered in Wisconsin, so maybe consider the source-- had the patience for even his popular work. (The first people I met from NYC, I immediately started playing Lou Reed on the stereo, asking about lyrics, and they begged me to turn it off because they liked music that sounded good. I had thought NYC was full of Lou Reeds.) I think Lulu is the litmus test for the current press. Not that they should automatically grant a five star review, but that they should at least be capable of considering its merits.
