I will most definitely be in attendance at this show at the Josephine this Saturday. Of the four bands playing, three are Ball of Wax alumni, and the whole night should be filled with a diverse crop of great music.
Tied to the Branches (heard on Volume 23), the San Francisco band founded by Marc Manning (Volumes 1, 6, 8, and 16) and Brad DerManouelian (Volume 24), has a wonderful new EP out called Light of Day, It’s OK. They also have a bass player now, which should nicely complement the already impressive wall of sound that Marc and Brad were able to pull build with a guitar, a shitload of pedals, and an electronic drum kit.
Kelli Frances Corrado and her Starlight Wishes are, as mentioned before, longtime allies of Ball of Wax. Her band keeps getting bigger and better (they’ll be debuting new violinist Jessica Gring at this show), and the sound keeps getting fuller, richer, and more refined. I’m sure I’ll leave the show even more excited for the album they’re working on than I already am.
Geist and the Sacred Ensemble (an early incarnation of which was heard on Volume 14) will be celebrating the release of their new album, In Search of Fabled Lands. The album is dark, layered, and mystical (and you can download the individual tracks for free or the whole thing for as little as a buck), and their live show is bound to be memorable.

The one band I’m not familiar with on this bill is Hunter, the solo project of Hunter Lea, formerly of local psych-pop favorites Mono in VCF. This is his solo debut in Seattle.
